East Hazel Crest is a small, quiet community about 22 miles south of downtown Chicago, home to roughly 1,300 people. The village originally split off from neighboring Hazel Crest over a century ago as rail lines expanded through the area. Today, those tracks provide a convenient commute into the city, with the Calumet Metra station offering a direct ride straight to Millennium Station.
