East Tawakoni, TX

East Tawakoni sits on the eastern shore of Lake Tawakoni in Rains County, opposite its twin city, West Tawakoni. State Highway 276 runs through town toward Emory, nine miles east, while the lake sets the western edge of daily life. The city was incorporated on June 6, 1967, after 30 of 45 residents voted in favor; the 2020 census counted 824 residents. It remains a small lake city with a road-and-water map and no single downtown doing all the work.

City council meets monthly, and municipal routines include police, fire, court, utilities, and emergency notices. Rains Independent School District serves local students from campuses centered in Emory, and Lake Tawakoni supplies boating, fishing, shoreline outings, and weekend traffic. The twin-city relationship across the lake is part of the town’s character, but East Tawakoni keeps its own council, addresses, and city services.
