Eau Claire, MI

Eau Claire is a village located in east central Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The 2020 census counted 552 residents. The village lies partially within Pipestone Township and partially within Berrien Charter Township. Eau Claire was established in 1861. Eau Claire High School has an enrollment of around 194 students. That mix gives Eau Claire a clear local shape within Michigan, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. The community took its name from a nearby creek which was observed to have clear water; "eau claire" is French for "clear water". The area is frequently affected by lake-effect snow in winter.
