Edgewood, IA

Edgewood is split down the middle by Iowa Highway 3, which also marks the line between Clayton and Delaware counties. The post office began on the Clayton side in 1852, and the city incorporated in 1892 after the local council had already been doing its work. The northern streets lie in Lodomillo Township and the southern ones in Honey Creek Township, so a short drive through town crosses a county line as well as the center of town. Edgewood grew as a service community for the farms and small settlements of northeastern Iowa.

Every summer, Edgewood Rodeo Days changes the town’s rhythm. The PRCA-sanctioned rodeo brings professional competition, parades, live music, children’s activities, and a long list of volunteer-run events. The Edgewood Museum, housed in a former feed mill on Highway 3, keeps local business, school, church, and family history in view. Edgewood-Colesburg schools serve the area, while the highway carries school buses, farm equipment, and regional trips through the same two-county grid. Edgewood is a small city with an unusually visible county line, a working agricultural setting, and a June celebration that pulls the surrounding countryside into town.
