Edina, MO

Edina is the Knox County seat, set in central Missouri between the North and South Forks of the South Fabius River. The town was platted in 1839 and named for Edina, the old Scottish name associated with Edinburgh. Missouri Routes 6 and 15 meet in the city, connecting the courthouse town to farms and smaller communities across the county. The 2020 census counted 1,012 residents. Knox County R-I School District and the Knox County Branch Library add everyday civic institutions to the county-seat map.

Edina’s most distinctive physical feature is its Double Square Historic District. The two squares hold the county courthouse, a former school, pavilion, bandstand, water tower, and commercial buildings dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The WPA-built courthouse, completed in 1935, still gives the center a public face, while the library keeps the square connected to current routines. Edina is a small county seat with a Scottish name, two river forks nearby, and a double-square center that makes government, history, and local commerce easy to read in one walk.
