Edinburg, IL

Edinburg is a Christian County village with a railroad-era beginning. The community was incorporated in 1874, and the post office opened in 1893 after the name shifted through Blue Point and Blueville before settling on Edinburg. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad helped place the village on the county map, connecting a small local center to the surrounding prairie farms and the larger towns along the line. The name may look old-world, but the town’s history is practical: mail, rail, fields, and a cluster of homes and businesses.

Since 1945, the Labor Day Picnic and Parade has given Edinburg an annual date that ties the village to Christian County’s rural and agricultural life. The event belongs to the same local rhythm as school, churches, farm roads, and Main Street errands. Taylorville is the county’s larger service center, while Edinburg keeps its own address and village scale about nine miles northwest. The railroad is less visible in daily life than it once was, but it still points to why this patch of Christian County became a place with a name, a post office, and a yearly gathering people can count on.
