The University of Central Oklahoma sits right near the heart of Edmond, bringing a vibrant college-town energy to the community. Its landmark building, Old North, dates back to the 1890s and still hosts classes today, blending historic campus roots with everyday student life. Because the campus is only four blocks from the main business district, students and locals share the same coffee shops, bakeries, and storefronts along Broadway. That close connection keeps the center of town active throughout the week, whether people are heading to class, catching a game, or grabbing lunch with friends.

Edmond grew from a quiet railroad water stop into one of Oklahoma's most desirable suburban communities. The city boomed during the 1889 Land Run, gradually shifting from an agricultural and oil hub into a city known for tree-lined neighborhoods and great schools. You can still see pieces of that heritage around town, especially near Stephenson Park, where a native-stone 1930s armory now houses the Edmond History Museum. Downtown Broadway serves as the central hub for local shopping, dining, and weekend gatherings. On third Saturdays from spring through fall, the streets fill up for Heard on Hurd, a popular block party featuring dozens of local food trucks, pop-up vendors, and live Oklahoma music. The Downtown Edmond Arts Festival draws visitors from all over the region every spring, and getting around the central district is easy thanks to Citylink, Edmond's completely fare-free local bus system.

When you want to spend time outdoors, Arcadia Lake offers an easy escape just a short drive east of downtown. With miles of shoreline along the Deep Fork River, the lake is a go-to spot for boating, kayaking, mountain biking, and lakeside camping. Its location along historic Route 66 makes it a natural backdrop for outdoor festivals, community runs, and summer beach days, giving residents plenty of open water and scenic trails right in their own backyard.
