Edmund, SC

Edmund is a Lexington County census-designated place at a crossroads in central South Carolina. South Carolina Highway 6 runs north to Lexington and southeast toward Swansea; South Carolina Highway 302 heads northeast to West Columbia and southwest toward Pelion. That four-way map gives Edmund its character: it is a place people pass through on the way to somewhere else, while the roads also hold the local addresses, yards, services, and gathering spots.

The county's Edmund Park and Community Center supplies one of the clearest gathering points, with tennis and basketball courts, a picnic shelter, playground, and community building. Lexington County's Edmund landfill and solid-waste offices add a more workaday county function along Edmund Highway. The place is served by the larger Lexington County school and service network rather than a municipal downtown. Edmund was first counted as a CDP in 2020, but the roads are older than that label: nine miles to Lexington, twelve to Swansea, ten to West Columbia, and seven to Pelion. In Edmund, the crossroads is the landmark.
