About Edmundson
Edmundson is a St. Louis County city in Airport Township whose beginnings are tied to one of the county’s early subdivisions. Four days before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Edmundson Terrace—156 homes—was offered for sale to the public. The 2020 population figure was about 860. The subdivision became the Village of Edmundson in 1948, and the community later took its present city form. What began as a planned residential pocket grew into a small municipality inside the St. Louis airport-side suburbs.
The original neighborhood was joined by Bobbie Downs Apartments, duplexes, shopping centers, a service station, a helicopter port, a church, and Kratz School. Students now attend the Ritenour School District. Those details show how Edmundson changed from a single housing development into a place with its own schools, services, and local government. Its history is unusually easy to date: a 1941 subdivision, a 1948 incorporation, and a postwar suburban landscape that filled in around the first 156 homes.
