About Egan
Egan is an Acadia Parish community along Louisiana Highway 100 between Crowley and Jennings, near Bayou Jonas and the rice country around Canal Switch. The place has worn several names: Jonas Cove first, then Regan for a while, and Canal Switch after canal workers for W. W. Duson built a warehouse for area rice farmers in 1899. The Egan name honors William M. Egan, whose company built the local rice mill and helped develop the town. It is southwest Louisiana in a bayou, rice, and road-corridor shape.
