El Dorado, AR

El Dorado is the county seat of Union County in southern Arkansas, close to the Louisiana line. Its identity is strongly tied to oil: the city houses the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission and has long been associated with Murphy USA and the south Arkansas petroleum economy. Downtown, South Arkansas College, the South Arkansas Arts Center, city parks, and big winter events such as the Festival of Lights give it more civic life than its population alone suggests.
