Elberfeld, IN

Elberfeld is a Warrick County town in Greer Township, northeast of Evansville. The 2020 census counted 644 residents. Indiana Southern Railroad tracks bisect the town, while Interstate 64 passes just north and Interstate 69 passes west without a direct local interchange. That road map keeps Elberfeld tied to nearby Evansville and Boonville while leaving the town's own streets outside the main highway stream. Elberfeld Elementary School and the Elberfeld branch of the Boonville-Warrick County Public Library are familiar civic institutions. The town has no direct interstate exit, so daily trips follow local roads to the larger centers.

A post office has operated here since 1868, and the town was formally platted in 1885. German settlers built up the community and named it after Elberfeld in Germany. The railroad became the route for farm shipments and local travel, even as the highway network passed around town. Today, the branch library on Sycamore Street, elementary school, rail line, and county roads give Elberfeld a distinctly local scale inside the Evansville orbit.
