About Elizabethton

Elizabethton is a city and the county seat of Carter County, Tennessee, recognized as the historical site of the first independent American government west of both the Eastern Continental Divide and the original Thirteen Colonies. The community of approximately 14,400 served as a major muster site for the Revolutionary War battles of Musgrove Mill and Kings Mountain, and Sycamore Shoals State Park commemorates these events. Public education is administered by the Carter County School District.
