About Elkmont

Elkmont is a small town in north central Limestone County, included in the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. It began as Fort Hampton, a stop on the Tennessee and Alabama Central Railroad in 1859, and the railroad history still gives the town an older backbone. Elkmont is known locally for the Richard Martin Trail and nearby Elk River country. It remains small, but its location places it within reach of north Alabama's larger job centers while keeping a rural Limestone County feel.
