About Elkton

Elkton is Todd County’s seat, a Kentucky city established in 1820 around a courthouse square. Its name comes from the elk herds once drawn to a nearby salt lick and waterway, a detail still reflected in the elk statue on Public Square. The 1835 courthouse and the homes along the historic district keep the town’s early layout visible, while Todd County Public Library gives the square a present-day civic stop. Elkton is a Pennyrile county seat with an animal name, an old courthouse, and two centuries of streets built around the county business.
