Ellicottville, NY

Ellicottville is a town in Cattaraugus County, named for Joseph Ellicott, the Holland Land Company's principal land agent. European settlement began around 1815, and the town grew around Great Valley Creek, a tributary of the Allegheny River. The village and the larger town share the same name, giving the place two scales: a compact center with older buildings and a broad surrounding landscape of hills, farms, forest, and winding roads. The village's storefronts and side streets change character with the seasons.

Winter brings a major change of pace through Holiday Valley and HoliMont, while summer visitors come for mountain roads, village events, the Nannen Arboretum, and outdoor recreation. U.S. 219 connects Ellicottville to Buffalo's southern suburbs and Salamanca, keeping the resort economy tied to regional work and travel.
