Elsah, IL

Set against the limestone bluffs of the Mississippi River, Elsah is one of the quietest and most historic spots in the St. Louis metro area. Located about 45 minutes north of downtown in Jersey County, the village is filled with 19th-century stone cottages, shaded side streets, and lush gardens. The Great River Road runs right along the edge of town, making it easy to reach neighboring Alton and Grafton, while the paved Sam Vadalabene Bike Trail offers miles of scenic cycling right along the water.
