Emma, NC

Emma is an unincorporated Buncombe County community and CDP sitting between Asheville, Woodfin, Dryman Mountain, and the French Broad River. It first appeared as a CDP in the 2020 census, which is a newer bureaucratic label for a place with an older local presence. The useful local read is its position: central Buncombe, with Asheville along the east and south sides and Woodfin to the north. Emma is less a standalone town center than a named pocket of the Asheville-area landscape, close enough to the city to share its edges while still carrying its own community name.
