Encantada-Ranchito-El Calaboz, TX

Encantada-Ranchito-El Calaboz is one Cameron County census-designated place with three names and three pieces: Encantada, Ranchito, and El Calaboz. It sits just north of the Rio Grande along U.S. 281, about twelve miles northwest of Brownsville and six miles south of San Benito. Encantada appeared on highway maps by the early 1960s, and the combined community became a census-designated place in 1990. The long name is not bureaucratic clutter; it reflects the separate colonias that grew together along the Military Highway.

El Calaboz lies toward the western side of the CDP, Ranchito toward the east, and La Encantada Elementary gives the area a school center within San Benito Consolidated ISD. South Texas ISD magnet schools also serve local students. The everyday map is made of farm roads, homes, school routes, and the nearby river corridor, with Brownsville and San Benito handling the larger shopping and services.
