Enderlin, ND

Enderlin sits along the Maple River across Cass and Ransom counties in southeastern North Dakota. Founded on October 7, 1891, the city grew around rail traffic and still has a Canadian Pacific crew-change and yard office. The 2020 census counted 881 residents. The Robert Lindemann House, built in 1913 and listed on the National Register, preserves a piece of the early town, while the river valley and the broad seasonal swings keep the landscape distinctly prairie.

Rail and agriculture still drive the workday. Northern Sun/ADM operates a major sunflower-processing plant and also handles edible beans and peas; Plains Grains & Agronomy, Maryhill Manor, and Enderlin Public School round out the largest local employers. City hall keeps up with water billing, emergency notices, street work, and Summer Fun Days, while cyclists, anglers, hunters, hikers, and bird-watchers use the countryside beyond town. Enderlin’s character comes from that overlap: industrial yards beside grain country, a school calendar beside a rail schedule, and the Maple River running through both.
