Enhaut, PA

Enhaut is a compact Dauphin County CDP inside Swatara Township, just southeast of Harrisburg. Steelton borders it to the southwest, Bressler to the southeast, and Oberlin to the northeast, so the local map is a chain of neighboring communities rather than one isolated center. The state capitol is about four miles away, but Enhaut still has its own place-name and township setting. That proximity is part of the point: Enhaut is close to the capital without being absorbed into it.

Swatara’s history reaches back to farm country. An 1875 atlas marked the village cluster that later became the Bressler–Enhaut–Oberlin area, before the three communities were separated for census purposes. Township histories describe the later shift from wheat and corn fields to built-up neighborhoods, which is the broad change behind Enhaut’s present shape. For bearings, think of Enhaut as the middle link on the south side of Harrisburg’s urban edge: close to Steelton and the capital, tied into Swatara’s roads, and carrying a name that grew out of an older village landscape rather than a standalone borough government.
