About Enlow

Enlow is an Allegheny County census-designated place spread across North Fayette and Findlay townships, with a history that follows the old Montour Railroad. Enlow Station was a stop on the short line, and the community took its name from Amos Enlow, a farmer whose family was established in the area. Coal mining and farming shaped the townships around it, while the railroad carried coal toward Pittsburgh and the steel mills. That industrial past is still the key to reading Enlow's name on a modern map.

The surrounding setting has changed in emphasis. North Fayette now reaches toward Pittsburgh International Airport and the Pittsburgh suburbs, and Enlow falls within the West Allegheny school district. Roads and township boundaries do more of the work the railroad once did, but the place still sits at the meeting point of an old farm-and-coal landscape and the region's airport corridor. The old line and the newer airport road now point to different eras of the same landscape.
