Enola, AR

Enola is a Faulkner County town in eastern Arkansas, nineteen miles northeast of Conway and part of the Central Arkansas region. Mount Zion Baptist Church, built in the late 1840s, served as the town's first schoolhouse and a Masonic lodge. A road through Enola connected Little Rock and Quitman by 1867, and the first post office opened in 1879. A school followed in 1881, giving the settlement a civic center before the town incorporated on July 9, 1969.

Enola's school history is still visible in the Mount Vernon-Enola School District, created in 1991 when the two local districts consolidated. The Enola school became the elementary campus, while the high school is in nearby Mount Vernon. The surrounding land remains a working farm landscape, producing soybeans, rice, wheat, sorghum, and livestock. Roads lead toward Conway and the smaller Faulkner County communities around it, but Enola keeps the shape of an older crossroads town: church, school, post office, and fields gathered along the same rural map.
