Enterprise embraces a quirky piece of Southern history you will not find anywhere else. Back in the early 1900s, when the boll weevil beetle wiped out local cotton crops, farmers here were forced to switch over to growing peanuts instead. The gamble paid off so well that the town erected the Boll Weevil Monument right in the center of downtown to honor the pest that sparked their success. Today, that sense of humor carries over into Weevil Way, a collection of fun, human-sized statues painted in different costumes and placed outside storefronts all across town.
