Enterprise, MS

Enterprise is a town in northwestern Clarke County where the Chunky River and Okatibbee Creek come together to form the Chickasawhay River. That river junction is the heart of the place: a trading post grew there after a Choctaw village and Jesuit mission had occupied the site, and by the 1850s Enterprise was a commercial and cultural center reached by river travel. The town incorporated in 1846, the Mobile and Ohio Railroad arrived in 1855, and the town briefly served as Mississippi's temporary capital during the Civil War.
