About Epworth

Epworth is a Fannin County census-designated place on Georgia Route 5 between Blue Ridge and McCaysville, at about 1,700 feet in the north-central county. The community was first called Atalla; a post office took the name Epworth in 1901, after the English birthplace of Methodist founders John and Charles Wesley, and the town was incorporated in 1906. Cherokee people lived here before that later naming. Epworth is a North Georgia place where an older Cherokee landscape, a changed community name, and a mountain highway meet.
