Erwin, SD

Erwin is an incorporated town in Kingsbury County, South Dakota. The 2020 Census counted 40 residents. The South Dakota State Archives dates Erwin’s post office to 1882 and the town plat to 1887. A state archival corporation record also lists an Erwin Cemetery Association filed in 1883. Kingsbury County lists Erwin among its towns and places it in a county whose landscape includes Lake Thompson, one of the state’s largest natural lakes. Erwin is a small prairie settlement whose documented civic history centers on its post office, townsite, and cemetery association.
