Ester, AK

Sitting just west of Fairbanks in the rolling hills of Interior Alaska, Ester is a quirky, independent community of around 2,700 residents. The town started as a bustling gold-mining camp along Ester Creek in 1903, and that frontier spirit is still very much alive. Historic wooden cabins, preserved camp buildings, and beloved local watering holes like the Golden Eagle Saloon give the area a rustic character that sets it apart from typical suburbs.

Daily life here revolves around a tight-knit, volunteer-driven neighborhood spirit. Residents gather at the Ester Community Park for summer softball, winter ice skating, and live music, alongside popular events like the local Fourth of July celebration. The community runs its own volunteer library and fire department, while major grocery stores, healthcare facilities, and employers like the University of Alaska Fairbanks are just a quick ten-minute drive away.
