Estero sits comfortably between Fort Myers and Naples, blending small-town Southwest Florida charm with modern master-planned living. The village takes its name from the Spanish word for estuary, and its early roots trace back along the winding Estero River. In the late 1800s, pioneer homesteaders planted citrus groves along the banks, followed soon after by the Koreshans, an eccentric religious community whose historic settlement and lush tropical gardens are still preserved at Koreshan State Park. Just downriver in the bay lies Mound Key, an ancient shell island built by the Calusa people centuries earlier.
