Etna, OH

Etna is a Licking County census-designated place in Etna Township, centered on the old National Road corridor east of Columbus. The 2020 census counted 1,209 residents. The settlement was laid out as Carthage in 1832 when the road was being built, took the Etna name from the township, and has had a post office since 1833. U.S. 40 forms the northern edge, while I-70 runs along the south, so a small historic crossroads sits between two very different kinds of through traffic.

Etna Township's hall and local history work keep the old road story visible, including the tale that the place was renamed after its high point between Jacksontown and Columbus. State Route 310 links the CDP to I-70 and nearby Pataskala, while U.S. 40 follows the older east-west line toward Columbus and Zanesville. Etna's local scoop is a tiny National Road settlement with a former name, a long-running post office, and interstate traffic passing just beyond the old center.
