Eton, GA

Eton is a Murray County town on U.S. 411, four miles north of Chatsworth, the county seat, at the foothills of the Cohutta Wilderness. The 2020 census counted 889 residents. U.S. 411 is the town’s spine, carrying people toward Chatsworth and north toward Tennessee, while Camp Ground Mountain rises south of town and the Conasauga River watershed shapes the valley. Georgia State Route 286 branches west toward Dawnville.

Eton incorporated in 1909 and still packs daily life along its highway: Eton Elementary, churches, restaurants, a pharmacy, grocery and fuel stops, and a cluster of carpet and flooring businesses. The Cohutta Wilderness, Chattahoochee National Forest, and Fort Mountain State Park sit close enough to define the wider landscape, but Eton itself works as a service stop for the surrounding rural roads. The local economy mixes small-town retail with the carpet industry that runs through this part of Murray County. Eton is a mountain-edge town where the highway, factories, and forest meet.
