About Eutaw

Eutaw is Greene County’s seat, founded in 1841 after residents moved the county government from Erie to the new town. The courthouse became the center of town life early; the first one burned in 1868, and the brick replacement built in 1869 still gives the square its weight. Around it, the Greene County Courthouse Square District holds late-nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century commercial buildings and antebellum homes. Eutaw is a west Alabama Black Belt town where county government, old brick, and a courthouse square carry the story.
