Evart, MI

Evart is an Osceola County city on US 10 and the Muskegon River. The town grew after Perry Oliver Frank Everts and other early settlers arrived; when it was named for him, the spelling changed from Everts to Evart. The railroad, a lumber mill, and a store all arrived in the early 1870s, putting the river and transport corridor at the center of the town's growth.

That river-and-rail shape is still visible downtown. The Evart Downtown Historic District was listed on the National Register in 2025 and follows Main Street between the old railroad line and the river. Today the city's local calendar and gathering places include a farmers market, downtown concerts, a restored depot, and events at the fairgrounds. The Pere Marquette Rail Trail reaches the downtown area, and Evart Public Schools keeps the city's school life in the same compact map. Evart is a river town whose old commercial center still connects to work, school, and the trail.
