Ewa Gentry, HI

ʻEwa Gentry occupies a compact piece of Oʻahu’s ʻEwa Plain where cane acreage became a master-planned residential community. A 1990 environmental assessment described roughly 300 acres of Oahu Sugar Company fields in an expansion area, on ground cultivated since the late 1800s. The resulting ʻEwa by Gentry development is one of several planned communities on the plain. The 2020 Census-defined place covered 2.13 square miles. That area describes the CDP, while the homeowners association covers a particular network of single-family neighborhoods and condominium communities within the development.

Association rules and city services meet at the curb. Under the association’s 2025 guidelines, buyers join an organization that manages common areas, covenants, and exterior design review. Condominium owners may also belong to a separate Association of Apartment Owners, or AOAO, with its own governing documents. The association maintains the Thomas H. Gentry and Westside community centers, a pool and pavilions, and three named parks. It also schedules Movies in the Park, swap meets, classes, and seasonal activities. Honolulu retains responsibility for public streets and curbside trees, while the association maintains its shared grounds and inspects properties for covenant compliance. That division is a practical part of owning a home here, as central to the development’s form as its streets and subdivisions.

Fort Weaver Road carries the community’s main north-south movement toward Waipahu and the H-1 corridor. In 2026, TheBus Route 91A served Fort Weaver Road at Renton Road. Hōʻaeʻae station, an operating Skyline stop at Farrington Highway, Leoole Street, and Leoku Street, serves the ʻEwa Beach area through local and express bus connections. From the station, buses run toward ʻEwa Beach, Hoʻopili, and Village Park, with local service continuing along Farrington Highway. That geography puts Skyline access north on Farrington Highway, while the association’s community centers, pool, and parks sit inside the residential development.
