About Fair Grove

Fair Grove is a Greene County city about 14 miles north of Springfield on U.S. 65. The 2020 census counted 1,582 residents. A post office has operated here since 1856, and the name came from a grove that reminded early settlers of Fairgrove, North Carolina. The town’s center grew around a grist mill, the kind of place where nearby farmers brought grain to be ground and traded for everyday goods. That mill history still organizes the calendar. The Fair Grove Heritage Reunion returns on the last full weekend of September, with handmade crafts, antiques, demonstrations, music, a parade, and events around Wommack Mill.

The restored mill remains the heart of the preservation work. The Fair Grove R-X School District provides the local K–12 reference point on Main Street, and Springfield remains close for larger errands and work. Fair Grove’s local scoop is a Missouri town where a mill, a school, and a forty-year-plus heritage gathering keep the old crossroads story in circulation.
