Fair Lakes, VA

Developed in the 1980s and 1990s, Fair Lakes is a master-planned Northern Virginia community designed around convenience, wooded buffers, and scenic neighborhood ponds. The heart of the area centers on Fair Lakes Parkway and Fair Lakes Circle, which loop around major retail centers, residential pockets, and low-rise office campuses. With Interstate 66 cutting right through and Route 50 and the Fairfax County Parkway right on the perimeter, getting around the region is straightforward. Neighborhoods here include quiet townhome enclaves, single-family homes, and modern condo complexes, often tucked behind thick stands of mature trees that buffer everyday suburban traffic.

Daily errands and shopping are exceptionally easy, with Fair Lakes Center, East Market, and nearby plazas putting Target, Whole Foods, Walmart, and dozens of restaurants right at your doorstep. For commuters, the location is a major practical advantage. In addition to quick access to I-66, the Stringfellow Road Park and Ride on the western edge offers express bus service to the Vienna Metro station, the Pentagon, and downtown Washington. Fair Lakes remains primarily car-dependent for regional travel, but having direct commuter bus routes provides a reliable alternative for getting to major employment hubs.

Beyond the retail centers, the community features miles of paved walking trails that wind through wooded green spaces, around lakes, and past shared sports courts and picnic areas. Walking between different commercial centers can involve navigating wide multi-lane roads, but the internal trails within residential sections offer peaceful outdoor routes right outside your door. When looking for a home in Fair Lakes, pay close attention to micro-location. A townhouse tucked along a quiet wooded path offers a very different daily experience than a home situated closer to a busy shopping entrance or highway feeder road.
