Fairfax is a city in Linn County, Iowa, situated southwest of Cedar Rapids. Laid out in 1863 when the railroad was extended through the region and named for Fairfax County, Virginia, the growing suburban community of approximately 2,828 at the 2020 U.S. census is served by the College Community School District locally for residents.
