About Fairview
Fairview is a Multnomah County city east of Portland, north of Gresham and west of Troutdale, with the Columbia River shaping the wider regional setting. The 2020 census counted 10,424 residents. Before farms and roads filled eastern Multnomah County, Multnomah people lived in a village on Sauvie Island, and later settlers raised hay, grain, and livestock in the area. The old agricultural frame still sits behind the suburban road network.
Salish Ponds gives Fairview a local landmark with two freshwater lakes, fishing, and walking trails. City parks and the Fairview Community Center add everyday places to meet, while the Reynolds School District operates Fairview Elementary, Salish Ponds Elementary, Woodland Elementary, Reynolds Middle, and Reynolds Learning Academy in the city. The city’s present map is a mix of ponds, school campuses, neighborhood parks, and routes toward Gresham, Troutdale, and Portland. Fairview feels tied to the metro on commute days, but the ponds and school grounds give it its own weekly pattern.
