Falls Creek, PA

Falls Creek is a Jefferson County borough laid out in 1891 and incorporated in 1900 from Washington Township. Its name comes from the waterway along the borough’s north side. Falls Creek flows into Sandy Lick Creek, which forms the southern edge of much of the community before the water continues through the Redbank Creek watershed toward the Allegheny River. The borough’s shape and name both come from this meeting of streets and streams.

The town grew with the practical industries and transportation routes of western Pennsylvania, and today it remains part of the DuBois-area network of homes, jobs, schools, and services. Creek valleys, wooded slopes, older houses, and small businesses give the borough its everyday scale. Water is still a physical presence: heavy rain can change the creeks, while the same channels mark the settlement’s original location. Residents travel beyond the borough for larger errands and employment, then return to a place whose boundaries are easy to understand on a map. Falls Creek is a small borough with a very local geography, named for a stream and organized around the narrow land between two waterways.
