About Falmouth

Falmouth is a census-designated place in Stafford County, Virginia, situated on the north bank of the Rappahannock River opposite Fredericksburg. Established in 1728 as a port town to serve the Northern Neck proprietary landholdings, the community of approximately 5,216 was occupied by the Union Army during the Civil War. Recreation is centered around the 520-acre Lake Mooney reservoir, and public education is administered by Stafford County Public Schools.
