About False Pass
False Pass is a city on Unimak Island in the Aleutians East Borough of southwestern Alaska. The community's name comes from the Isanotski Strait, which early mariners called a false pass because deep-draft vessels could not navigate its northern end. While the 2020 census recorded a population of 397, only about 35 residents remain year-round, with most others being seasonal fish processing workers. The Aleutians East Borough School District operates the False Pass School.
