Farmington's Animas River corridor links public spaces through the center of the city. Farmington has spent more than 35 years developing its river-trail network, and more than eight miles now connect Animas, Berg, Boyd, All Veterans, and Among the Waters parks. At Animas Park, the Riverside Nature Center interprets the watershed from a cottonwood setting, with paths leading into river habitat. A North Trail Connection project is extending the system toward the Farmington Museum and a new public park at Main Street and 20th Street. The river route therefore joins nature exhibits, playgrounds, picnic grounds, and central civic destinations rather than functioning as a single isolated recreation site. The July 2025 Census estimate placed Farmington at 46,055 residents, 1.2 percent below the April 2020 estimate base.

During 2020 through 2024, American Indian and Alaska Native residents accounted for 26.1 percent of Farmington, and the Hispanic or Latino share was 24.1 percent; 21.3 percent spoke a language other than English at home. Owners occupied 66.2 percent of homes, with a median owner-occupied value of $233,000 and median gross rent of $1,037. The mean trip to work was 19.5 minutes, while the poverty rate was 17.4 percent. A recurring civic tradition takes a different form at Ricketts Park. The city has hosted the Connie Mack World Series since 1965, bringing baseball players ages 16 through 18 into local host families and surrounding the tournament with a parade and evening shuttle service.
