Fayette, OH

Fayette took shape when the railroad reached Fulton County, incorporating as a village in 1872. Its post office has operated since 1873, and the old rail-era center still gathers many of the places people associate with town: Main Street, the Opera House, the library, and the school campus. The Opera House dates to 1889 and now hosts plays, concerts, speaking events, and the annual Reed Organ Festival. In August, the Bullthistle Festival adds a parade, food, entertainment, basketball, and fireworks to the calendar.

Three miles southwest, Harrison Lake State Park began in 1941 after a dam was built on Mill Creek, giving Fayette an easy connection to woods and water beyond the village streets. Fayette Local School District operates the elementary and high schools, while Normal Memorial Library serves as the community's lending library. The 2020 census counted 1,305 residents. Fayette's identity comes through in the way a restored performance hall, a school-centered town, and a nearby lake park all fit within one small Fulton County community.
