Fayetteville, TX

Fayetteville is a Fayette County city of 246 residents at the 2020 census, set among the blackland prairie of southeast-central Texas. State Highway 159 runs through the center, with Industry to the northeast and La Grange, the county seat, to the west. The town's compact grid meets open farmland at its edges, a pattern laid out in the original 1850 plat with unusually broad 100-foot streets around the square.

German and Czech settlers shaped Fayetteville's built landscape and agricultural culture. Most of the town lies within the Fayetteville Historic District, a 153-acre area with 345 contributing properties, including buildings from 1853 through the mid-twentieth century. The former precinct courthouse faces the square, while Fayetteville Independent School District keeps education local. LCRA's Oak Thicket adds a nearby water and recreation landscape beyond the grid. The square remains Fayetteville's clearest civic center. Its daily map is easy to read: broad streets, a school, Highway 159, and farms beginning almost immediately beyond town.
