About Fellows

Fellows is a census-designated place in Kern County, California, United States. The 2020 census counted 52 residents. Fellows is located 5 miles west-northwest of Taft, at an elevation of 1,316 feet. Fellows is surrounded on all sides by the enormous Midway-Sunset Oil Field, the third-largest oil field in the United States, and the oil and gas industry accounts for much of the area's economic activity. Fellows makes sense once you see how its past, landscape, and current gathering spots overlap. The useful thing to know about Fellows is that its older landmarks and current settings belong to one connected place. Fellows developed as an oil boomtown after the 1909 discovery of the Midway Gusher. The first post office at Fellows opened in 1910.
