Ferndale, PA

Ferndale is a Cambria County borough at the edge of the Johnstown area, with the Stonycreek River forming much of its eastern and southern boundary. Johnstown lies directly north, while Riverside sits across the river to the south and Elim borders the west. That geography gives Ferndale a clear valley setting: homes and streets climb away from a river corridor that eventually joins the Little Conemaugh at Johnstown.

The borough remains tied to the wider Stonycreek and Johnstown network for work, schools, shopping, and recreation. Ferndale Area School District operates from the borough, and the surrounding river corridor has long served as a route through Cambria County. The Stonycreek is also part of the region’s renewed fishing, paddling, and whitewater story, with communities from the Somerset highlands down through Ferndale and Johnstown sharing its banks. Ferndale itself is a small residential borough, but its map is regional in practice: one side opens toward Johnstown, two sides follow the river, and the roads lead into the wooded hills and older mill-and-mining communities of southwestern Pennsylvania.
