About Ferry
Ferry stands in the Nenana River valley along the George Parks Highway, about 23 miles north of Anderson and 11 miles south of Healy. The Alaska Railroad listed Ferry as a station in 1922, and completion of the line in 1923 helped establish a permanent settlement for miners, market hunters, and others working in the Interior. A post office followed in 1925, along with a grocery store and the small services of a rail stop. Today the highway and braided river valley place Ferry between larger Interior communities, while the Strand grave marker preserves a trace of its early residents.
