About Fields Landing

Fields Landing is a Humboldt County community on the south side of Humboldt Bay, within the Port of Humboldt Bay district and just south of Eureka. It was named for Waterman Field, who established a landing and dock there in the 1860s for shipping farm products. Wiyot people have ancestral ties to this part of the bay, and fishing, timber, and agricultural shipping shaped the later economy. The boat yard and bayfront roads keep the working-waterfront geography obvious. Fields Landing is the kind of place whose name is basically a map clue.
