Fillmore, IN

Fillmore is a town in Putnam County's Marion Township, where the 2020 census counted 532 residents. Its name carries a small piece of local history: the settlement's post office opened in 1849 as Nicholsonville and took the Fillmore name in 1861. The post office remains part of the town's civic footprint today. That name change still marks the town's early years. US 36 and US 40 pass to the north and south, with US 231 east of town, giving Fillmore a clear road connection through the agricultural landscape of west-central Indiana.

South Putnam Community Schools serves the town, tying local school life to the wider rural area around it. Fillmore's layout and history make sense as a crossroads community: an old postal name, a handful of roads, and a school district that reaches beyond the town boundary.
