About Fincastle
Fincastle is the Botetourt County seat, and the courthouse still gives the town its old Virginia shape. Founded in 1772, it was laid out on a grid for travelers and settlers moving west through the Valley of Virginia. The historic district holds weatherboarded log dwellings, three antebellum church buildings, and the Botetourt County Courthouse, first built in the 1840s and rebuilt after a 1971 fire. With the James River and rolling farm country nearby, Fincastle feels like a courthouse village with a long road behind it.
